How does the programme fit alongside schoolwork and other commitments?
Our programmes are designed to be flexible and manageable for busy students. Here's how it works:
Mindful Time Commitment
Students typically spend 4–6 hours per week, including one weekly 1:1 session with their supervisor. Because each project is individually tailored, there’s plenty of flexibility to adapt the research plan around a student’s schedule and varying time commitments.
Flexible Scheduling
Tutorials are arranged at mutually convenient times - including evenings and some weekends, if needed.
Personalised Pace
The programme is tailored to each student’s schedule and working style, so they can engage fully without disrupting schoolwork, exams, or extracurriculars.
This structure ensures students can benefit from meaningful academic enrichment while maintaining balance and wellbeing.
Are there different types of programmes?
Yes - we offer multiple programme formats throughout the year to suit different schedules and term-time pressures. Each is designed to provide structured, high-quality supervision while remaining flexible and manageable for students.
4 Week Programme (Offered year-round)
Our core option, ideal for students wanting steady progress in a focused timeframe.
4 weeks of supervision, usually meeting once a week

6 Week Programme (Spring & Autumn terms)
Perfect for students balancing school and extracurricular commitments.
4 full supervisions, plus 2 shorter check-in meetings
Spread over 6 weeks to allow breathing room during term time
2 Week Intensive (Christmas & Easter holidays)
For students who prefer a faster pace or want to use school breaks for deep academic focus.
2 supervisions per week over a concentrated 2-week period
Designed for maximum impact during holidays
Each programme offers the same high level of personalised guidance - just with different pacing to fit around the academic year.

Who can take part?
Our programmes are open to students aged 16 and over from all academic backgrounds. Whether they’re passionate about the Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, or the Arts, students who are curious, motivated, and ready for an intellectual challenge are encouraged to apply. There are no specific subject or grade requirements - just a willingness to think independently and explore ideas in depth.
What subjects does Inquisitas offer?
Inquisitas doesn’t offer traditional ‘subjects’ in the way school does. Instead, our programmes use the methods and frameworks of the Humanities and Social Sciences - such as critical analysis, argumentation, qualitative research, and ethical enquiry - to explore big questions across any area of interest. This means students can pursue projects on everything from climate policy to medical ethics, literature to law, psychology to politics. Whatever the topic, we help them develop a research question and investigate it through a structured, academic lens.
What resources do students need?
We aim to make our programmes as accessible as possible, and most students can get everything they need using free or low-cost resources.
Tailored Reading Lists
After enrolment, students let us know what resources they have access to through school or personal subscriptions. Tutors then create tailored reading lists and provide curated academic articles and research materials suited to each student’s project.Course Handbook
All students receive our course handbook, which includes guidance on academic research and a list of recommended sources.Online Research Skills
During 1:1 sessions, tutors advise students on how to find, access, and assess the quality of online sources - helping them build confidence in using academic materials effectively.Library Use Encouraged
We encourage students to make use of school and local libraries - or begin building their own - as part of developing independent academic habits.Optional Subscription
If students do not already have access via school, we recommend (but do not require) registering for a personal JSTOR account for the duration of the programme. JSTOR gives access to a wide range of academic journals and papers, and offers free subscription options or around £20/month for unlimited access.
These resources, combined with expert guidance from their tutors, ensure that students have everything they need to succeed in their research project.
What do students produce by the end?
Each student completes a fully researched, independently written academic essay - usually 2000 - 3000 words - on a topic of their choice. The final piece is co-edited with their supervisor to ensure a professional standard in style and presentation. Students also receive a letter of recommendation detailing their skills and achievements.
Who teaches the students?
Our programmes are led by expert tutors from Oxford and Cambridge, who bring both academic excellence and a passion for mentoring. Students work one-on-one with their tutor, receiving personalised feedback and guidance as they develop their research projects in a university-style learning environment.
We prioritise student safety and wellbeing, with all tutors DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding. Our team closely monitors progress and is always available for support. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
Do you accept international students?
Absolutely! Our online format means students can participate from any location. Tutorials are scheduled with time zone differences in mind, and we regularly welcome students from across the UK and internationally.
How does this help with university applications?
Students are able to draw on their research projects in personal statements, interviews, and university essays. The ability to talk about a self-directed academic project is a powerful asset, demonstrating initiative, subject passion, and readiness for university-level work - especially when applying to competitive universities like Oxbridge or the Russell Group. This is particularly valuable for Humanities and Social Sciences applicants, who often have fewer opportunities to showcase independent academic engagement in quantifiable ways.
Are programmes entirely online?
Yes - the entire programme is delivered online via a secure learning platform. This allows for flexible scheduling and makes the programme accessible to students anywhere in the world.
Can schools partner with you directly?
Yes - we work with schools to provide custom cohorts, priority placements, and discounted pricing. There’s no administrative burden for schools, and our team handles all student onboarding and support. Educators can request more information via our Schools page.
